CROSS MATCH TECHNOLOGIES INTRODUCES GROUNDBREAKING LIVE SCAN FINGERPRINT SYSTEM

Newest FBI IQS Appendix F Certified System Is Lowest Cost, Smallest, Fastest and Easiest to Use In Industry

PALM BEACH GARDENS, FL., July 9, 2003 - Cross Match Technologies, Inc., a leading global provider of forensic-quality fingerprint and palm print identification solutions, has broken the $10,000 price barrier for FBI IQS Appendix F compliant 10-print live scan systems with the introduction of the ID 500™

Digital fingerprinting technology with its accuracy and rapid response, via Cross Match's revolutionary ID 500 slap-and-roll system, is now easily affordable to the full variety of law enforcement, governmental and corporate organizations that must conduct background checks. Cross Match Technologies is also providing multiple procurement choices, including a brand new rental option, to help agencies and organizations obtain the ID 500.

Weighing just 11.5 pounds, the ID 500 was developed for portable use in the field or wherever necessary. Its engineering design ensures image integrity by automatically sensing the placement of a finger and then permitting the capture of the image only if predetermined quality criteria are met. An integrated touch screen display on the scanner quickly guides the user through the fingerprinting process, made easier by the system's incorporation of an intuitive roll feature, which emulates the natural action of taking a fingerprint in the traditional manner of using ink and paper.

In addition to breaking the cost and size barriers, Cross Match's ID 500 has significantly simplified the entire live scan system set up process. For the first time, customers can essentially take the live scan system out of the box, read a few simple instructions, plug it in, turn it on and begin obtaining digital fingerprints for forwarding to a state or national database for background checks. The simplicity of the system, combined with user aids and a training video, make becoming operational as easy as setting up a new out-of-the-box computer.

"Priced at less than $10,000 for a complete system, including fingerprint scanner, software and computer, we believe this new Cross Match product will meet the budgetary and operational needs of a large segment of the community that conducts FBI background checks for criminal bookings or new employee screening. These organizations can now migrate to the benefits of live scan with the ability to get results in hours instead of weeks but were unable to afford to do so until now," said Theodore "Ted" Johnson, Cross Match Technologies President and CEO. "This exciting new product will greatly simplify and, in so doing, speed the process of fingerprinting. We've designed and built a very flexible and affordable scanner for use throughout the United States and the world," he said.

The ID 500 will:

  • Consistently produce high quality, 10-print rolled impression images meeting the FBI's IQS certification standards.
  • Capture quality fingerprint images from even dry, weathered or stained fingers.
  • Minimize common errors and FBI rejection rates.
  • Be robust and withstand heavy use in a workplace environment.
  • Be affordable to a wide range of agencies and commercial organizations.
  • Ensure data and fingerprint image integrity.
  • Require minimal data entry by incorporating a magnetic stripe card reader for a driver's license.
  • Provide for high quality through software sequence and quality checks as well as highly efficient self-diagnostic and automated calibration tools.

"The ID 500 is designed with the same technical expertise as our industry-leading ID 1000's 10-print live scan system and further positions Cross Match in the forefront of our industry," said Tim Murray, Cross Match Executive Vice President and COO. "From an engineering perspective, the ID 500 builds upon our ID 1000 heritage with an innovative design that incorporates advances in software, illumination and platen technology that enable high quality operation over a wide range of environmental operating conditions."

"We've also added design features that greatly enhance the ease of taking a quality print from even the most difficult to print subjects," Murray said. "Cross Match has designed and developed this instrument with our customers' foremost needs in mind. We are offering the ability to capture the highest quality fingerprints with an affordable, precise and easy to use system," said Murray.

The ID 1000's heritage in meeting CJIS-RS-0010 IQS Appendix F criteria is reflected in the new system's design as well. The ID 500's flexibility also allows it to be configured as either a desktop, portable or integrator system.
